Killa D: Small City Big Dreams

Picking up and moving your life from the small city you know and love to one of the biggest cities in the country can have its tolls on a person. 12 years later Louisiana born rapper Killa D revisits his past and pays homage to his hometown Minden. From reppin the city on the album art to resident speaking on the project, Small City Big Dreams gives fans and those outside of Minden a look into their world.

Killa has always had a knack for music, rapping since a young age he’s continuously worked his way up from small shows and block parties until his move to Houston.

“I’ve been rapping since I was twelve years old. I actually started during junior high. I began doing shows at The Forestry Building and other small places around Minden until I eventually moved to Houston in 2009 where I got to open for SwishHouse.”

Small City Big Dreams is a well-rounded album with a solid mix of high-energy club bangers and deep, thought-provoking tracks. Killa dives deep into his personal life throughout the run up the project, touching on multiple close subjects like betrayal and losing someone close to you.

“Trust is based off of what I’ve personally witnessed in others. People put their trust in someone only to get let down in the end. I have put my trust in someone, whether it be in a relationship or friendship, only to be betrayed in the end.

During Thinking Dreaming and later in Ventilation, Killa mentions the passing of someone close to him, you can tell through the subject matter and infliction in his voice that it’s someone he cared a lot for.

“(Sigh)…Yes, I lost my best friend in 2016 due to domestic violence. It took months to find her killer, I already knew it was her boyfriend. He took someone dear to me, that I had a spiritual relationship with, someone who always motivated me, whether in life or my music career.”

Another acknowledgement to his home, Killa uses time during his album to have some of his closest friends drop shoutouts on his Interlude. During the 3-minute run, dozens of close friends, relatives, and music colleagues, share their love for the rising star.

Killa D is making a name for himself and has only just started the ripple in what will be a momentous wave. With new music on the way and an upcoming documentary, Killa D is ready to show Lousiana, Texas, and the rest of the world what he has to offer.
