Toluca FC booked its place in the 2026 Leagues Cup final with a composed 2-0 victory over Club León on Sept. 2 at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston. In an all-Liga MX semifinal, the Diablos Rojos controlled much of the match and gradually wore down a León side that struggled to convert its possession into goals.
The breakthrough arrived in the 41st minute. Federico Pereira found the net with a right-footed strike from the edge of the box, giving Toluca a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. León had opportunities to respond, but Toluca’s defensive organization kept the Esmeraldas from creating consistent danger. The final statistics reflected Toluca’s control, with the winners recording 21 shots to León’s 11 and eight clear chances compared with León’s two.

Toluca added an insurance goal in the 69th minute when Federico Viñas finished from close range after a combination involving Helinho and Jorge Díaz Price. León’s task became even more difficult late in the match when Bruno Méndez was shown a second yellow card and sent off in the 89th minute. Toluca managed the closing minutes effectively, preserving its two-goal advantage and securing its first Leagues Cup final appearance. The victory sent Toluca through to the championship match, where it would face CF Monterrey.

Four days later, Toluca returned to Shell Energy Stadium for the championship match against Monterrey and completed its run to the trophy with another 2-0 victory. Alexis Vega opened the scoring in the fourth minute after Federico Viñas’ shot struck the post, and Helinho doubled the advantage in the 70th minute. Monterrey pressed for a way back into the game, but Toluca held firm to capture its first Leagues Cup championship.
