“Ricooo, Ricooo!”, her infamous name tag echoed the venue as Rico Nasty’s DJ set the stage for her sold out show in The Bronze Peacock at Houston’s House of Blues on April 29. The floors quaked as she had fans moshing, raging , and shaking every limb of their bodies. Rico is truly like no other artist out now as she combines new age grunge, hyper pop, and hints of experimental trap all wrapped up in a Emo-Kawaii-Punk-girl package. Her raging set list consisted of tracks off her 2020 studio album Nightmare Vacation, her 2022 mixtape Las Ruinas, and fan favorites from older releases like Sugar Trap 2 and Nasty.
Her black platform combat boots adorned with kandi rave beads stomped and jumped on stage and fans followed suit. Fans understood the assignment as they also complimented Rico’s style rocking fishnets, black platform boots, creative grungy make up looks, and spikes galore. Rico surprised the crowd by bringing out Beaumont, TX rapper Teezo Touchdown to perform along side for their track “Messy“. His signature nail hair paired with the traditional bouquet of roses he brings out during performances, had fans feeling like they were at a Teezo show while being at a Rico show.
Rico gracefully showed appreciation for as many fans as she could as she signed fan items all while performing at the same time. At one point she had to pause the show to sign items as fans bombarded her in excitement to get their own little piece of Rico. To get back to the program she hit fans with “Smack a Bitch” and the crowd was in synchronized uproar. Rico seriously created a safe environment for fans to let loose, scream out their problems, and just forget about life’s troubles for one night. She has molded her own unique space in the music industry as the pioneer of “sugar trap”.
