The show started off with one of my personal favorite rising artists, Omar Apollo. His performance gave me goosebumps as he delivered with the upmost power and passion. You could feel the pain in his voice as he performed tracks like “Evergreen” and “Want U Around”. I love how he does not shy from performing each track with the coinciding emotion it conveys. A perfect introduction to the phenomenal main act, SZA.
SZA ate and left no crumbs at Moody Center in Austin, TX for her SOS Tour. From production, wardrobe, choreography, stage set, to SZA’s voice and energy, this show was what the kids call “a movie”. Seriously though, SZA gave all her fans every penny’s worth for their tickets. She laid out her soul and heart on stage with every verse and movement of her luscious ginger curls. Her tour can best be described as a play reenactment of her songs. You almost felt like you were watching a music video for every song she was performing.
The show began with a replicated stage set up of the iconic “SOS” cover with SZA singing “PSA” on the edge of a diving board infront of a blue ocean screen projection. After she “jumped” into the ocean, she jumped right into “Seek & Destroy”. She performed beloved hits from her latest album such as “Kill Bill” and “Low” to hits from CTRL like “Love Galore” and “The Weekend”. Personally, one of my favorite parts of the show was when she sailed through the storm across the arena on a life boat wearing a gorgeous gown. This climatic performance was one for the books! It marked her efforts at being saved from the stormy turmoil she had been devastated with. The show ended with a bang with a sunset projection on the screen and SZA back on the edge of the diving board. This marked her salvation and the end of the production. Everyone was in complete and utter awe after she left the stage. SZA was even kind enough to go back on stage a few moments after her performance to thank her fans. It’s no surprise why she is so beloved! Not only is she an amazing singer, songwriter and performer but she is also very loving to her fans. SZA’s “SOS” tour will go down in history as one of the greatest productions of this era.
