Week 1
This is the new weekly segment where I’m going to cover freshest new songs from all around the world. I’ll be covering new releases from the biggest hip-hop markets in the world (Germany, Italy, France, UK, Balkans and USA). This week was filled with returns from big artists, but also some new-comers making impacts and name for themselves.
Germany: GZUZ – Donuts (prod. by TheCratez)
Gzuz, one of the most controversial rappers on the planet, has finally released new music after a few months of silence and nothing has changed. Drugs, weapons, strippers and beating police cars have always been in Gzuz’s videos, and the music video for the recently released “Donuts” is no exception. The track was produced by TheCratez, a producer-collective from Berlin, which by this point is 187 Strassenbande’s (Gzuz’s group) constant.
Italy: Paky – Boss (prod. by Kermit)
The freshest newcomer from Italian hip-hop scene is undoubtedly a young Milanese artist named Paky. After hits like “Tutta Black,” “Non Scherzare,” and his homage to his hometown Rozzano “Rozzi,” the young prospect has now also payed homage to one of the most dangerous ghettos in the world – Scampia, Naples. Like all his songs, the newest track “Boss” was produced by Kermit.
France: Sofiane – #Jesuispasséchezso: Episode 12 (prod. by Tarik Azzouz)
French heavyweight, Sofiane, has after a long pause from music, finally returned in his biggest fashion. He released a 12th episode of his long series of releases, named #Jesuispasséchezso. He has been releasing these so called “episodes” since 2016, and has come a long way since then, gaining wide commercial success with songs like “Lundi,” “Mon Ptit Loup” and “Tout L’monde S’en Fout.” It seemed as so the fame got to him and consequently he took a 2-year-long pause, but even after, looks like the same old Sofiane from Bondy we know. Song was produced by Tarik Azzouz.
United Kingdom: DigDat x Aitch – Ei8ht Mile (prod. by Chris Rich Beats & WhYJay)
This song was released two weeks ago, but I’ve been listening to it ever since. The 8 Mile theme song on a drill beat is something we thought we didn’t need but we did. DigDat and Aitch are last years biggest names in the UK, and lyrical wise, these two are a beautiful addition to the rapidly growing UK hip-hop scene. Like lyrics, the instrumental was outworldly and complex, which makes the song quite a piece of art. Song was produced by Chris Rich Beats and WhYJay.
Balkans: Smoke Mardeljano – Kucni Psi (prod by. Branko Brka Brkić)
Smoke Mardeljano is one of the best lyricist from Balkans in the last few years, and his new song “Kucni Psi” is just a confirmation of his skills and level. The song, on the first listen, has a satire feeling, but it’s much deeper than that. He’s taking shots at the music industry, their moguls and the pure absurdity of it, all which he delivers on a Boom Bap type of beat, as expected. Music was produced by Branko Brka Brkić.
USA: Pop Smoke – Christopher Walking (prod. by Dez Wright, WondaGurl & CashMoneyAP)
If you haven’t heard about Pop Smoke by now, you are really living under a rock. The high rise of the New York drill artist, has made the genre popular again. Hard instrumentals, a low voice, and aggressive one liners, are what makes Pop Smoke unique and different, and it’s no coincidence as to why his views are increasing through all platforms. His new album is set to be released on February 7th, by the name of “Meet the Woo 2.” “Christopher Walking” was produced by Dez Wright, WondaGurl & CashMoneyAP.
Stay tuned for next weeks picks.
Awesome picks! Short and informative, but with intersting info about the artists. Looking forward to your next post.
