Rauw Alejandro took us out of this world with his SATURNO World Tour at Toyota Center this weekend in Houston. Saturno, the latest project by Puerto Rican artist Rauw Alejandro, brings his artistry into a whole new realm. The experimental sounds coupled with 80s disco funk, perreo dance tunes and r&b vocals have birthed a new era for Rauw’s music career. He is paving the way for new age reggaeton artists to create sounds outside of traditional reggaeton, that immerses listeners in a way that has never been done before.
The show took off with Rauw’s current heavy hitter, “Punto 40,” paired with streamers and confetti blasting out of the stage. Stage and lighting production was top tier as each song was paired with a corresponding presentation to create a feeling derived from each track. Choreographed dancing intricately complimented Rauw’s performance as each move was carefully executed and brought life to the music. The set list was massive as Rauw performed plenty of new tracks off Saturno and classics such as “Reloj”, “Dile a El”, “Party”, and “Pensandote”. It was definitely the perfect time in his career to catch a Rauw show!
Personally, on of my favorite highlights of the show was when Rauw was hoisted up as if he was being “abducted” by a spaceship during the track “Lejos del Cielo” meaning “Far from the sky”. Smoke swallowed up the stage and stage lights blared around him creating the perfect illusion of him feeling so lost in love with no way to go as he awaits for answers from his lover. I also really enjoyed the Jabbawockeez’s solo performance and when they joined Rauw to enhance the experience. From stacking on top of one another to creating a “spaceship” armed with “guns” for him to shoot with to fighting against him during the “standoff”. Rauw wraps up the show with his Puerto Rican pride banger, “Carolina”. This was the perfect opportunity for him to showcase the appreciation and love he has for the place that made him.
The Saturno World Tour is definitely one for the books! The futuristic, electrifying stage, and lighting production was a whole show in itself. Pairing that with Rauw’s vocals, dance moves and energy created a very unique experience that I highly recommend checking out.
