Rookie of the Year Young Miko Dazzles Houston for XOXO Tour

I remember the first time I heard Young Miko— my friend Gen sent me two of her biggest singles, “Lisa” and “RiRi,” and I was instantly hooked on her sound. I knew I had to see her live! Young Miko has become one of the biggest sensations out of Puerto Rico, gaining significant traction in the urban Latino scene over the past two years. She’s been featured on singles with major stars like Feid on “Classy 101” and Bad Bunny on “Fina,” and even landed an opening act on Karol G’s “Mañana Será Bonito” tour.

Last night Young Miko, finally made it to the Smart Financial Centre in Houston, TX, for her “XOXO tour,” following the release of her second album, “Att.” One of the highest anticipated shows as fans were excited to see how her new material would come to life on stage. On screen, eight empty hearts appeared, gradually filling up with each passing moment. As the final heart reached its peak, the lights dimmed and a soft pink glow spread across the venue. The crowd cheered, chanting “Miko Miko Miko” in eager anticipation of her arrival.

When the lights flared to life, they revealed a stage design inspired by the cover of her album. Young Miko performed on a large purple bed, mirroring the album’s cover art. The opening notes of “Rookie of the Year,” one of my favorite tracks from the album, resonated through the venue, accompanied by a powerful drumbeat and a guitar breakdown. This visually stunning and energetic setup set the perfect tone, igniting the excitement for the night ahead.

With each intermission throughout the concert, Young Miko made a point to connect with her fans, pausing between songs to engage with the crowd. She spoke candidly about the vulnerability of being an artist and the hope that her songs resonate with her listeners. She shared a personal sentiment, saying, “Mi energía es solamente mía y solamente con quien quiero compartirla, y es un privilegio también para la persona con que lo comparto,” which translates to, “My energy is only mine, and only with those I want to share it with, and it is also a privilege for the person I share it with.” This highlighted the importance of maintaining control over one’s energy and choosing carefully who to share it with, emphasizing that sharing it is a meaningful and privileged experience. This heartfelt moment seamlessly led into her performance of “En La Pichi Interlude,” and “No Quiero Pelear,” that delves into themes of love and conflict.

Switching up the tempo, the stage illuminated with a large boombox, setting the scene for a high-energy shift. Young Miko addressed the crowd with enthusiasm, “Houston, y si lo metemos un perreo así?” before launching into “ID,” a track featuring Jowell y Randy. Along with “Colmillo” a track produced by Tainy feating Miko and J Balvin, the song’s infectious beat and dynamic rhythm were the perfect cue for the audience to get up and dance and had everyone moving to the music.

Young Miko Delivered on all fronts, bringing an infectious energy that ampiflied the venue that matched the excitement surrounding her album. The setlist feared a mix of tracks from “Att.” alongside her earlier hits that she perform back to back telling the crowd to sing along if they know the lyrics to see who’s been there since the beginning. Creating a dynamic and engaging show. Closing out with an upbeat version of “Curita,” the fans matched Miko’s vibrant stage presence, making for a memorable night.

The anticipation was well worth it, as the concert set to be a spectacular showcase of her talents and the connection she has built with her fans! Wishing her a healthy and great rest of her tour! I’m excited to see what’s next for Young Miko!
