The King of Bachata, Anthony “Romeo” Santos once again made his reign known in Houston Texas, this time at Minute Maid Park. Romeo a native of the Bronx, New York and son to Puerto Rican and Dominican parents, brought his Formula Vol. 3 tour to Houston June 24th. Primarily known as the lead singer to the viral group Aventura, Romeo has since embarked on a solo journey, now with the tour being named after his fifth studio album.
“El Chico De Las Poesias” once again had the crowd singing along passionately as he started off the show with “El Pañuelo” a hit song featuring the Spanish superstar Rosalia, the set list was a perfect mix of his biggest hits both as a solo artist and with his former group. Santos’ success in the Latin music scene is undebatable and Houston was definitely ready to be welcoming once again, by singling along word for word.
Among the “Te Amo and Marry Me” chants one fan was ready to make it known he was Romeo’s Number 1 fan, Jose Manuel caught Romeo’s eye and was the lucky person to share the stage with his idol, but not without being tested in front of thousands of fans within Minute Maid Park. “How big of a fan are you..from 1-10” Romeo asked to Jose Manuel, in which he responded a “10”, with now a microphone in each of their hands he proceeded to sing the first few lines of his song featuring Christian Nodal, Me Extraño, Jose Manuel accomplished his task as Houstons #1 fan by singing every lyric among the cheers and motivation of his fellow fans in the crowd definitely making it a special moment.
Personally the most intimate and my favorite moment of the night was Romeo taking a seat at his throne while he asked for song requests from the crowd- the Aventureros as most requests were his hit songs with Aventura, songs the crowd chanted word for word, staples and lyrics that give goosebumps or in my case- shed a few tears to years ago. Rising up center stage in a bathtub filled with blue petals Romeo performed Propuesta Indecente and Sus Huellas concluding his Houston Formula Vol. 3 tour to cheers, claps and confetti cannons blasting the crowd. A night to remember…here’s to hoping for a Fomula Vol.4.
