Role Model Tugs on Houston’s Heart Strings

It was the last day of a short month—rent was due, the sun refused to make an appearance—we needed a pick-me-up. Thank god for Role Model (who, just to get ahead of things, is not one.) Houston’s early slot in the North American No Place Like Tour… tour, ensured Role Model’s Space City fandom a right to many of the tour-defining viral videos on TikTok, Instagram, and where ever else they’re now appearing. One of which is forever scarred in our minds: a video of a Houston fan holding a sign which read, “LET ME EAT THAT ASS IN HOUSTON,” a reference to the line “I’ll take my ass to Houston” from the singer’s 2024 b-side ‘The Longest Goodbye.’

Role Model, or Tucker Harrington Pillsbury, which is actually his name, unless there’s an expert level troll on Wikipedia specializing in the names of pop heart throbs, played to a packed House of Blues in Houston on Friday, February 28, 2025, with help from opener Debbii Dawson. Dawson’s ABBA-like ballades felt strangely at home ahead of Role Model’s indie, pseudo folk, definitely pop songs, despite being, in no way, related.

Role Model’s fans are devout. They know the words to the songs, obviously, but further, they know all the inside jokes from the singer songwriter’s various social media accounts (see: Saint Laurent Cowboy.)

The concert was a light hearted celebration of life and youth—a string of easily digestible, catchy as hell guitar forward pop songs that left everyone in attendance with a smile. The No Place Like Tour… tour will continue through Canada and the U.S. through April. Tickets are available at https://shop.heyrolemodel.com/pages/tour.
