In what is remembered as a star studded night, the masses gather to NOTO Houston for Red Bull’s Turn It Up event. You can feel the anticipation as the spectators line up around the venue. Spectators are greeted to the door with a wrist band that allows an interactive experience that Turn It Up introduces to their DJ competition.
With a night celebrating the DJ culture, there couldn’t have been better representation with veterans like DJ Mr Rogers and DJ Hed as captains. DJ Mr Rogers a Houston based DJ record producer, engineer, and mixtape composer – widely known for his contributions to Houston for his production and exceptional DJ work through out the years. DJ Hed making his way through from the west coast, as one of the more prominent DJs that California has to offer – with previous work history with Snoop Dogg, Mack 10, Glasses Malone, Jay Rock, Nipsey Hussle, and Rick Ross.
As the night progresses DJ Maiya Papaya, Don Rey, Vrywvy, and DJ Gallix collided with DJ Anarchy, Tony Styles, Mark Cutz and DJ Doesitall through a variation of music categories. Both parties having to create a DJ sequence on the spot kept spectators on their toes featuring requests like Tex-Mex, slow jams, one hit wonders , Beatking, and much more. Turn It Up event introduced a unique voting system that consisted of wristbands provided to spectators to cast their votes in real time.
Through all the mixes of the night, Don Rey and Maiya Papaya make their way to the finals. Displaying remarkable synergy and ability to read the room through out the night, it was a sight to see. As the final votes were casted for the night, Don Rey and Maiya Papaya prevailed and pushed Team DJ Mr Rogers to secure the win for the Turn It Up event concluding an unforgettable event put together by Red Bull and the talents that were in attendance.
