Original Slim Shows The Real Face Of Minnesota’s Rising Rap Artists.

Today’s underground music scene can be a challenge to gather younger aged rap fans to collectively come together for a show. In today’s climate it takes gimmicks and a stretch of the truth to gain the attention of today’s young rap fans. However, the creditable, twenty-four-karat gold-teeth-rocking, Original Slim, has no blockage keeping him from being thorough.

Connecting with his day one fans, and seeing them rock those “Original Slim” hoodies, shows that he has the charisma and starpower to become one of many faces in the forefront of the Minneapolis music scene. He can’t possibly tackle this gigantic field of creative competition here in Minneapolis all by himself, that’s why the artist opening for him propels his vision.

With select performances from many well-known faces in the local scene. We got to see artists like Papa, Sir Freck, OSho Pikaso, The Miraje, Starlight Jones, Rio, & Celly Mac all performing new music that is well reciprocated with the tone being set. Songs like“Sisqo”by Starlight Jones should have been run back twice the song is so fucking lit.

The unannounced Celly Mac came with a vibe to show what true Mid-West style and lyrics are. Collaborating together, showing genuine support to one another is what brought this concert to life, here at the Skyway Theatre.  Working with GainesFM of Freeminds, the rapper Slim has complete oversight to impress us with his aptness to be an impresario.

Trouble is knocking at the door with Slims performance. He has only one choice and that’s to live by his lyrics. You have to be keen to understand the voice and potential of a rapper who comes out to perform in sweats. This man is here for the music. The beginning of his set he plays songs from his earlier EP’s; for me, it was a chance to hear his progression from start to finish. Performing songs from the Saucy Slim mixtape like “Purified,” gave me the know it all that his sound will continuously expand thanks to his producer Basey.

Slim gives complete reverence to Basey’s craftsmanship and that’s the authenticity I mentioned. Giving the producer his flowers while he’s here. Lyrics like “By next summer Ima have a max Deal” in his track Chappelle, he allows us into his vision for his career. Not long before the set ends, he stops the music to give undisputed love for his mother who was also in attendance. He steps down to reality for a second and tells us why he makes music, about his family leaving Gary Indiana and moving to Minnesota in 2000, generating love for his people to latch on to as the showed came to an end. Afterwards, he stayed to take pictures with his people while we stayed around, cooking up more shows for February and March 2020.
