As I looked around the crowd, as we all eagerly awaited My Morning Jacket’s return to the Houston stage, I couldn’t help but notice that everyone around me was exactly my age. It was a room full of aging millennials (with great taste in music). Of course, that made sense. My Morning Jacket’s peak influence likely occurred during the early years of the new millennium. Though, that’s not to say their early 90’s records didn’t have an enormous impact on music. But standing in their audience in 2025 it was clear which generation was touched by their lengthy catalog of songs.
On April 13, 2025 My Morning Jacket returned to Houston for a much anticipated Sunday night jam fest. The group began with ‘Everyday Magic’ from their newest record, Is, released this year. But they didn’t shy away from old classics throughout.
Some fans were disappointed the band didn’t play a single song from their 2003 album It Still Moves. But the die hard ones seemed to revel in the diverse Setlist.
A highlight for many was one of the band’s new songs, ‘Time Waited’, a song who’s repeated motif is a sample from a late 1960’s pedal steel demonstration video by Buddy Emmons, which, despite its recent release, fans sang along with ease, and excitement.
My Morning Jacket finished with hits ‘I’m Amazed’, ‘Circuital’, and ‘Lay Low’ in what has to be one of our favorite Sunday night shows in a long time. Tickets for their tour are available at https://www.mymorningjacket.com/tour.
