Thursday, August 18, House of Blues was transformed and transcended. Isley didn’t waste any time serenading us into a sweet dream, kicking things off with “Such A Thing”, followed up with “About Him”. Only true Alex Isley fans will understand what a 21 track set list from her live will do to your spirit. It wouldn’t have been right if she didn’t cap the night off with her popular hit “Good & Plenty”, and as soon as the melody dropped, the entire venue fell into her trance. It was the best medicine for a lover of all things R&B.
Whether you’re listening to Alex for the first time or the 100th time, it seems like everyone’s reaction is literally the same across the board.
“She has the voice of an angel.”
For those that aren’t familiar, you might have recognized her last name. She is indeed the daughter of Ernie Isley, from the famed group, The Isley Brothers. Being blessed with a talent and ear for music come at no surprise for long-time listeners of hers.
Simply hearing her music isn’t doing your soul jusice. It’s like enjoying a well-prepared steak and a nice glass of wine on the side for the evening. Streaming the music is the steak, and Alex, with a voice like sweet Moscato in a live performance, is the perfect compliment that satisifies the musical pallet. Isley has a calming, soothing aura about her that’s imminent upon the first listen.
If you had any lingering doubts if real R&B was still a thing, please be reassured that it is alive and well promising artists like Alex Isley.
Refreshing. Simply refreshing. That’s how you could describe a show from Alex Isley.
