Fans braved frigid weather and stood in a line that wrapped around the block to get into Bayou Music Center Thursday night. Louis Tomlinson, of One Direction, stopped in Houston on Thursday, February 3, the third stop on his 2022 world tour. Fans started lining up at 4pm the day before, by 6am there were at least 100 people waiting in line. Rain and a windchill in the 20s didn’t scare Tomlinson’s loyal fans and those that waited were rewarded with a close-up view of the British singer. Throughout the night fans tossed flowers towards the stage, one fan even tossing an avocado towards Tomlinson, though he knew it was from love and not thrown with malicious intent.
The singer rose to fame in British Boyband, One Direction, but has since pursued a successful solo career. Walls released in January, 2020, hit number 9 on the US Billboard 200, and includes hits ‘Fearless’ and ‘Always You.’ Tomlinson interacted with the crowd throughout the night, giving a very genuine and honest performance.
“Now this is not a fucking excuse by the way, but I’ve come onto stage with a bit of a dry throat, and then I’ve come on and I’ve listed to that lyric in ‘Fearless’ and I can get it wrong in front of all these people because I fucking feel your support. Honestly, I’m not feeling 100% today but I want to give it everything for you guys. I just wanted to say, honestly, that this is the only fucking fanbase in the world that I can stand up here and still have so much fucking confidence to perform because you’re all fucking unbelievable! I just had to say that! I fucking love you all! You’re the reason I can do this…even though you throw shit avocados at me. I fucking love you all!”
Sun Room brought their sunny Cali surf vibes to start the night off and literally warm the crowd up. The crowd really felt their chill, fun vibes and danced along with their songs, even throwing flowers meant for Tomlinson. Founding member/lead singer/guitar player Luke Asgian introduced each of his band mates, Ashton Minnich (guitar), Max Pinamonti (bass), and Gibby Anderson (drums). Asgian mentioned that a rule of thumb they have is that if Anderson, still has his shirt, or in this case his vest, on by song five, they call it a night. The crowd went wild when he unzipped and removed his faux leopard print fur vest before song four. The band is relatively new, forming thanks to Covid and the resulting quarantine.
