The glitter queen, Kesha, shined and shimmered Friday night at Bayou Music Center. The stage was a covered in a whimsical display of giant blowups; a mushroom, cactus, a tiger, and a rainbow all towered over the stage. The lights dimmed and smoke encompassed the stage as the musicians took their places. With a fierce roar, Kesha joined her band. “Cannibal” played through the speakers, an eruption of bass and excitement swept through the audience.
Kesha looked stunning in her first outfit of the night; decked in leather star chaps and a leather thong bikini, draped in silver chains. She would make a number of wardrobe adjustments throughout the night, some big, some small, to fit the tone of the songs she was performing.
After her hit “Raising Hell”, she bent over, mooning the crowd, her two male backup dancers made a heart around her derriere with their arms. She instructed the crowd to get a good picture. “Did you get it? Send it to me!” She shouted to the audience. This sexy fun energy was the theme of the night. A person in a dinosaur mask wearing, a Pride flag as a cape, bolted across the stage and tossed glitter everywhere. The party never stopped once she walked on stage.
Kesha highlighted many of her talents. From playing drums with her backup dancers, each beat exploding in a cloud of gold glitter, to grabbing her guitar for a remix to “Your Love Is My Drug”, there was no shortage of surprises in the night’s performance.
This women is back with full force and a message to spread, one of self love and expression. Encouraging everyone to be themselves to the fullest, leaving their troubles at the door. “Life is short and weird…I’d like you to leave whatever bullshit outside tonight and be here with me. I want you to be as wild as you possibly can be
be as queer as you are, get as fucking crazy and naked as you want!”
“It’s hotter than the devils ball sack” Kesha laughed. She told the crowed how much she has missed being with her fans and to be free tonight! It was after that the bras started flying to the stage, people kept tossing them throughout the night. Kesha collected them all and held them up proudly for the crowd to see.
The set list was full of iconic hits like “Timber”, “Rainbow”, and of course, her 8x Platinum breakout single “Tic Tok” to end the night. Fans belted out every lyric with the singer as they danced their hearts out.
The singer left the stage with an explosion of silver streamers, but no goodbye. No one was ready for the party to end. The crowd was booming and begging for more, “One more song! One more song!” they chanted.
She came back in a beautiful white flowing see through dress with a gold halo crowning her head, and sparkling gold bodysuit underneath to sing “Praying”. The whole venue had their hands up, swaying, with cell phones lit up. As the song ended, the crowd cheered. “Can you put this light on my pretty ass face? Thank you! I’m going to go slip into something a little bit sluttier, I’ll be right back!” The crowd lost it. She came back out in a leather jacket with gold sequined shorts, and boots to match, as she danced to the first notes of “Blow”. Her backup dancers shot confetti canons into the crowd, as the song neared the end, they handed Kesha what looked like a fire hose but with an LED tip. She showered her “monsters” in confetti and glitter as they danced along to the last song of the night.
The lights came up, the inflatables deflated, and Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” kept the crowd buzzing as they exited. You couldn’t help but leave this concert still dancing, feeling sexy and ready to take on the world.
