Have you ever daydreamed of having your life story narrated to the world as a short with cartoon visuals? Well, Karol G did just that starting off her Houston show with the iconic deep and powerful voice of Morgan Freeman doing the narration. Her story is of a mermaid named Carolina, who has lost herself after flying too high and in turn suffers from a frozen heart. She embarks on a long journey of finding herself to once again become the BICHOTA that she is. For those who don’t know a BICHOTA, as Karol has described it, is a boss b**** that is powerful, amazing and independent. The story is full of vibrant colors & other cartoon friends such as Osito the bear, Señor Caracole, Tiago the Tiger, Sofia the snake and her bestie Bonita la Banana. In the story, we witness a butterfly help Carolina bring out her inner confidence which gives her the strength to tackle & overcome an enormous shark. This is the major turning point in the story as she remembers who she is, all she has accomplished and is once again LA BICHOTA. She stands tall on top of a chrome shark & performs “BICHOTAG”, the perfect lyrics letting the world know that she’s that girl.
Karol G’s setlist left everyone satisfied as she performed “Oki Doki”, my fave “QLONA”, “Ocean”, “Una noche en Medellin” and so much more during her almost 3 hour set. Young Miko also joined her on stage for “Dispo”, a track about a girl who has been cheated on and is now trying to heal dancing her feelings away at a club but isn’t looking to go home with just any random. This “girl playing hard to get” track gets Young Miko turnt and she pulls Karol G in to dance a perreo on her. The crowd looses it and even Karol G spoke up to say, “Es la unica que me pone nerviosa” (She’s the only one that makes me nervous). Another guest on this tour was the talented Irany Divad on the accordion who recently just wrapped up touring with Pepe Aguilar’s daughter, Angela Aguilar. She joined Karol for the tracks “Gucci Los Paños“, “200 Copas“, and “Mi Ex Tenia Razon”.
Karol G’s sweet nature & sweet voice is intoxicating ! She was kind enough to read fan signs out loud like one that read, “Sin ahorros pero en primara fila!” (No savings but in the front row!). She also showed major love to fans displaying their latin pride with their corresponding native flags. Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, Chile & much more were all present that night. Karol G’s music brings latinos together for a big party! Moreover, it is clear that Karol G accepts all the love and praise with grace and humble gratitude.
Karol G’s Mañana Sera Bonito Tour set list showed her musical range in the best way that I could imagine it ! From reggeaton, to tejano, to pop, to regional Mexicano and to wrapping up the night with the EDM banger “Provenza (Remix-Tiësto)”. Seriously that ending paired with confetti was like the perfect “The End” moment of the story. For that moment I think I am speaking for everyone else there, we all had a let loose and feel free moment. Karol G is a legend in the making and if you don’t have tickets for her show yet, go get them now ! Seriously, don’t do yourself the injustice of missing out on this tour. I’d also like to add that Karol G’s wardrobe not only brought out her beauty even more but it just complimented the songs she performed to the T. What made me so proud was the fact that her entire band on stage consisted of all women including one of my fave guitarist, Sus Vasquez.
Don’t forget that you are powerful and that Mañana Sera Bonito.
