The alternative community in Houston always shows up for our beloved bands. That was definitely the case for the SOLD OUT Pierce the Veil show on November 12th at 713 Music Hall. The line wrapped around the venue for hours as fans gathered and cheered for the band.
The Jaws of Life Tour highlighted Pierce The Veil’s musical transitions through the years. The 2023 release gave us a look and feel into the bands grunge perspective of music. They exceeded this flawlessly and the lyrics annotate this beautifully. The fans give gratitude for this and the band acknowledged it throughout the show.
The set list began with “Death of an Executioner” which also happens to be the first track on the album. The introduction created great anticipation for the show. We were greeted with confetti and an extended drum intro, which definitely amped up the crowd.
The timeless classics were up next. “Caraphernelia” off of the bands 2010 release “Selfish Machines” was played. This song was released over a decade ago and still gets the crowd in such high energy. Its lyrics are so powerfully felt, and fans are seen screaming the lyrics with such deep emotion. So much that Vic Fuentes, the frontman and singer, queued the crowd in to sing the lyrics together and all in sync.
Next, the band played their most famous and intimate song. To see it performed live is probably on every alternative fan’s bucket list to let all your feelings out. It was no other than “Hold On Till May”, off the bands third studio album “Collide With the Sky”. Fuentes shared a heartwarming message with fans regarding the progression of this gem stating, “This song is very special to us. It truly belongs to you guys. When this song came out you took it and you made it your own. You lifted it.” Tears and uplifting energy soared through the venue, as fans sang their hearts out. Fuentes paused the performance and called on a fan in the crowd to come up on the stage. Upon arrival, Fuentes gifted his guitar to this fan stating his immense gratitude for the support of everyone who was in attendance. It was truly a moving moment for all.
The acoustic set was a great addition to the fast paced show. “Bulletproof Love” was showcased this way and Houston was all for it. This gave a more personal feeling as it focused more on the vocals of this performance and gave the trio a spotlight seat at the front of the stage. This track has been another anthem for fans everywhere, as it’s lyrics were seen on many posters and T-shirt’s in the crowd.
As the show was coming to a close, the band gave us more of this year’s hits. “So Far so Fake” and “The Jaws of Life” were performed. These tracks show us why Pierce the Veil remains top on the music charts. The band’s musical versatility creates a greater appreciation for their art. The show ended with “King For A Day” as the encore which has made its way back on top of the charts this year. It will always remain in the hearts of Houstonians and our growing community.
