Houston Dynamo Win 2-1 in Season Finale Against MLS Giants LA Galaxy

We love the sound of a sold-out Shell Energy Stadium—the roar of the home crowd after a goal, the unison sigh of disappoint when the play doesn’t land, or the sheer optimism of the Dynamo fandom in full force—it just never disappoints. On Saturday, October 19, for the club’s last regular season match, Houston was treated to the true Dynamo experience.

LA Galaxy are a formidable opponent, though Houston was favored to take the victory. It wasn’t until the 44th minute when Houston took the lead with a goal from forward Ezequiel Ponce, with a little bit of luck. The ball was deflected off Erik Sviatchenko from an intended shot from team captain Héctor Herrera and found the Ponce who took it home.

It wasn’t until the second-half stoppage time, from a penalty shot, Gabriel Pec found the back of Houston’s net, equalizing for LA Galaxy. Former LA Galaxy defender Daniel Steres scored the winning goal for the Dynamo in the 11th minute of the second-half stoppage time, from a brilliant pass from defender Griffin Dorsey.

The end-of-season victory takes Houston Dynamo FC to Seattle for the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs where they will face Seattle Sounders FC for the Round One Best-of-3 Series.
