Houston Celebrates 20 Years of Juvenile’s Back That Azz Up

Friday night at White Oak Music Hall was an unforgettable celebration of nostalgia and energy as Houstonians packed the venue for Juvenile’s sold-out show, marking the 20th anniversary of “Back That Azz Up.” The evening kicked off with Mannie Fresh behind the DJ booth, expertly warming up the crowd with a vibrant mix of Houston rap classics, R&B hits, and bounce anthems. The crowd eagerly sang along and swag surfed to every beat, setting the stage for an electric night.

Originally slated to be held on the lawn, the concert was moved indoors, making the atmosphere even more intense as fans jam-packed the downstairs area. Despite the sweltering heat, the audience remained enthusiastic, dancing and rapping along to every track—even the deep cuts like “Shine” and “In My Life.” The seamless blend of music and atmosphere created an undeniable sense of camaraderie, as fans of all backgrounds—like the white girls in Saints jerseys grooving to “Get Your Roll On” and “Slow Motion”—came together to celebrate.

The 400 Degreez band, featuring a drummer, electric guitar, bass guitar, and an additional DJ, added depth to the performance, while DJ Mannie Fresh’s collaboration with Juvenile infused the night with an extra layer of excitement. As Juve and Mannie looked on with joyful smiles, it was clear they were relishing the enduring relevance of their music. This night wasn’t just a concert—it was a celebration of greatness, a time capsule of beats from the ’99 until forever, as everyone in attendance backed that azz up and bounced to the timeless rhythms.
