Gunna & Flo Milli Bring The Bittersweet Tour to Houston’s 713 Music Hall

Gunna is known for his melodic delivery, style, and theatrical stage concepts, all of which play vital roles in his Bittersweet Tour. Flo Milli, a superstar in her own right, opened the concert to a crowd of avid fans. She performed in front of a projector sheet which obscured Gunna’s elaborate set, with two dancers. But despite the simplicity of her set, it felt almost like a headlining act at times; most notably when she jumped off the stage and sang directly to the front row, taking selfies with several lucky fans as she rapped.

Gunna emerged not from behind the stage curtain but at the back of the audience on the second floor. A spotlight followed him as he sang the opening lines of “Bittersweet” to fans. Meanwhile, the stage and front row got showered with fake snow and a yeti—yes a yeti—walked across the stage, sending the crowd into overdrive. Gunna walked along the entire second floor as he sang until he disappeared through a back door.

When he returned to the stage he performed “Whatsapp (Wassam)” and “Prada Dem” from his latest offering One of Wun in front of the curtain. It wasn’t until his fourth song, “Back At It” when the curtain was dropped, revealing a spectacular set design. Behind the singer was an enormous stone replica of his head on its side amid a cluster of sharp rocks. It was as if Gunna’s face had been transposed onto a fallen Easter Island sculpture.

The singer went through an impressive catalog of hits, new and old, including some covers; Travis Scott’s “Yosemite”, Young Thug’s “Hot” and “Ski”, and ended the night with a cover of Victor Thompson’s “This Year (Blessings).”

The tour is slated to continue through the U.S. until early June when it will cross the pond to Europe, stopping in Poland, France, Belgium and many more countries throughout June and July.
