In this late installment of our weekly segment of fresh knockouts, we had a rough time making our picks, because of numerous great new releases around the world. In this week we had a lot new songs from already established names around the world, but also with a few young artists making their name for themselves, so let’t get right to it.
Germany: Shindy -554
With releases from Miami Yacine, Samra and Capital bra who made a deep house fusion song with his alter ego Joker Bra, it was a tough time making our pick, but in the end I had to go with my favorite german rapper from last few years – Shindy. Slow flow on a fast paced beat with short cut 808 samples is a synonym for Shindy song, and of course it was produced by one of the best producer in the world – OZ, who is currently on a 2nd place of Billboard top 50 producers.
Italy: Shiva – Scarabeo (prod by. Adam11)
If we had a tough time making our pick in Germany, Shiva made it a lot easier in Italy. Shiva is another young rapper from Milano (last week: Paky), who established his name with big name features like Sfera Ebbasta, Capo Plaza and Aitch. With highly anticipated EP »Routine«, Shiva made a nice statement in Italian hip hop scene, and it definetly met my expectations. Nice mediterranean guitar riffs and melodic chours, with reggeaton twist is a recipe for a very quality project, which we can easily attribute to distinct sound of Shiva. Song was produced by Adam11.
France: Hornet La Frappe – Fou (prod. by Heezy Lee)
France also gave us a considerably rough time making our this week’s pick. We saw a high quality visual from Niska for song Silicone (last year’s album Mr. Sal), great releases from underdogs like Kofs and Bosh, but there is one name from Paris who took the headlines this week – Hornet La Frappe. With release of his new album »Ma Ruche«, he re-established his already big name, but with a bit different sound. We can clearly see an influence from PNL (song »Fou«) and algerian native music, but he still kept his well known distinct style of lyrics and flow. Song was produced by Heezy Lee.
UK: Headie One – Charades (prod. by Fred again..)
Last month, Headie One was sentenced to six months in prison for “possession of a bladed article,” from an arrest that took place in June 2019. Still one of the UK’s best-selling rappers, solidifying his status last year with Music X Road, Headie One has dropped a new track called “Charades” that details his current situation. Produced by Fred again.., Headie flows over the mellow drill instrumental as he talks about the fight between having ties in both the streets and the rap game. In the visuals for “Charades”, we see a montage of Headie shutting down shows, as well as him and Fred again.. recording in the studio.
Balkans / Eastern Europe: Max Korzh – Разнесем (Destroy) (prod. by Dj Selebrium)
With not much releases in Balkans overall I decided to include in this particular region, also a very big Eastern European market (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine etc.), because it also shares a quite similar sound. I decided to choose Max Korzh this week, who as a musician/producer myself, look very up to him and I consider him my Idol. He is very known for one of the best concert experiences in the world and this song is all about that. On a hard trap beat and punk vocal he delivers an idea about destroying concerts, and killing it on stage. Song was produced y Dj Selebrium)
USA: A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie – King of My City (prod. by BandOnTheBeat, S.Dot & Boi-1da)
We was filled with hip hop releases this week from the States. Lil Wayne released a new album, we had grammys, and also we saw a nice homage to Nipsey Hussle by Roddy Rich and Meek Mill. But in my humble opinion, my favorite song this week was definitely »King of My City« by New York native A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. We had a lot of debate about crowning a new »New York king« last few years, but we can arguably say that A Boogie is a new crowned »King«. It is a song from an upcoming album »Artist 2.0«, which is expected to release on Valentine’s Day this year. Song was produced by BandOnTheBeat, S.Dot & Boi-1da.
