The Latin American Music Awards dazzled with a night brimming with star power and artistic brilliance! In its ninth edition, the ceremony solidified Karol G and Feid as a musical powerhouse duo, with both Colombian maestros sweeping an impressive six awards each at the iconic MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Karol G’s triumphs included the coveted titles of Artist of the Year and Song of the Year, while Feid shone in categories such as Collaboration of the Year and Streaming Artist of the Year.
The first category inaugural accolade of the evening was bestowed upon Peso Pluma, who secured the title for Best Regional Mexican Album with his groundbreaking work, “Génesis”. Taking center stage, the Mexican sensation expressed heartfelt gratitude, acknowledging the unwavering support extended to both corridos and himself. “I just want to thank you for all the love you have shown corridos, the love you’ve shown me,” Peso Pluma expressed. “Thanks to those who make this possible, especially to you my fans because you have made this wave of corridos even bigger.”
Not to be outdone, Shakira and Young Miko claimed three awards apiece, further enriching their illustrious careers. With a total of 76 artists vying across 27 diverse categories, the evening unfolded under the skillful guidance of hosts Alejandra Espinoza, Thalía, Becky G, and Carlos Ponce.
Feid and Karol G emerged as the undeniable champions of the 2024 Latin American Music Awards, each securing six prestigious honors. Karol’s accolades extended to Album of the Year (for “Mañana Será Bonito”) and the Song of the Year crown shared with Shakira for their hit “TQG”. Although absent due to her MSB Latin America Tour, Karol’s presence was felt as Feid delivered a memorable performance alongside Farruko and Jay Wheeler in a touching tribute to Yandel.
The night held special significance for Yandel, who received the Latin AMA Pioneer award. Growing up listening to Wisin y Yandel, I remember a whole era being centered around their music so seeing him get honored for the night was very fitting. In his emotional speech he went on to say, “Thanks to my work, my team, and to all the artists and colleagues who have collaborated with me during all this time, all this way of music […] Among them my partner of many battles, my brother Wisin, I love you with all my heart, my brother.” Moreover, Ricardo Montaner and Banda MS were honored with Latin AMA Legacy awards.
The festivities were punctuated by standout moments, including Carin León’s poignant performance of “Cuando La Vida Sea Trago” as he also went up to receive the award for best artist in the Regional Mexican category. With a plethora of other electrifying performances and a unique blend of English and Spanish presentations, the Latin American Music Awards captivated audiences, reaffirming its status as a premier celebration of Latin music excellence.
