Don Jones is back with his newest release and final installment in the
Hurricane Season trilogy.
“Hurricane Season is designed to express dealing with that internal storm. The good, the bad and the confusing parts such as finding a belief system and finding true alignment and peace.”
The album is essential split into two halves, a vibrant expression of ones self though immense bangers featuring braggadocios lines and extravagant flare, and a chaotic downward spiral of reflection enhanced by dark contrasting tones that bring you right back down to earth and make you reevaluate your conditions.
The album begins with a spoken word intro detailing that Jones is just speaking what he wants, it doesn’t always happen like he hopes but right now he’s just speaking his mind. Explaining his comeup through Freebandz, Jones steps it up notch for his run through Juice On Me, Blame, and Max Bass. These three songs together might be the holy trinity of getting your party out of control. Vigorous beats and unprecedented production boosts the tracks into an unforgotten domain of ragers.
Continuing on Oh Yeah and Too Drip are the dirty segues into what is held for the rest of the album. Jarring beats and uneasy setting start to turn the album from the light to the dark and Jones depicts through his lines, “Little segue just to warn you all about the dark.”
Till I Fall starts the avalanche-like shift that ultimately takes over the album in dark self-absorption. The heartache that resides inside begins to escape and release, and moves into more sinister territory. Dark electric synths carry the the somberness of the second half, bringing the listener into the dim realm of reality that ultimately transforms into acceptance and reconciliation with the playthrough of Astral, Moonlight, and Bestfriend.
Polishing off the album the final tracks bring us right back to ourselves and say “Fuck It”, we’ve done all we can and we’re still here. Nothing will ever be the same but neither will we. The past is in the past and our choices have been made. “Burn One” and deal with the consequences and whats ahead. But humans are creatures of habit so repeating the same nature is only expected, “Again Again.”
