Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, one of the biggest and most popular festivals, was held
at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. 100,000 attendees from all over the world
come to experience the magic under the desert skies. This years Coachella Festival is definitely
one to remember for it was their first year with a diverse line up since its first establishment in
the year 1999. Headlining Friday night was the Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny followed by South Korean girl group Blackpink on Saturday, and the American singer Frank Ocean closing out the festival on Sunday.
This years Coachella was more than just a music festival as it was filled with Latino performers that
paved way earning their spot in the limelight. This was also Bad Bunny’s first ever Latinos to take the main stage this year since his last time performing at Coachella as an undercard in 2019. He
got to bring out Arcángel, Jowell & Randy, and Ñengo, Grupo Frontera, and Jhay Cortez.
But he’s not the only one representing us… Other Latin and Spanish talents were performing
everywhere at this massive festival! Rosalia had an outstanding show being one of the best
performers right now along side her finance Rauw Alejandro who she brought out to close out
her set with “Besos” from their latest EP “RR”. She also brought out Tokischa to appear on
weekend 2.
As the city of Coachella’s population is more than 95% Latino, Becky G was another artist making
her Coachella debut… which was a very special moment for her as she was also bestowed the
key of the city for Coachella. It’s great to see our people be huge help and influence towards the
Hispanic community. She definitely gave us a show with bringing out regional Mexican artist like JOP from Fuerza Regida, Natti Natasha, and the latest phenomenon Peso Pluma who is rapidly climbing up the charts! She even did a tribute to Selena Quintanilla singing “Como La Flor” and “Balia Esta Cumbia.”
Standing in front of a crowd filled with hundreds, maybe thousands, as his first appearance at
Coachella is Danny Lux. In the middle of his act he shares a moment with his fans “I remember
when I was little, I would be like, ‘Mom, why is there so much traffic?’”. His mother would say
“Oh yeah, it’s Coachella weekend, all the artists are coming in” and now he’s one of the
performers playing at this event. His father even worked for a company years ago that
used to help clean after the event.
We also got to see Kali Uchis take the stage and perform her brand new album as the first stop
before heading out to tour for “Red Moon In Venus”. Bringing out plenty of special guests, one of
them being Omar Apollo for their song “Worth The Wait,” and her lover Don Toliver.
Along side other amazing performances from Eladio Carrion, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, and
Conexion Divine. It’s a great feeling seeing our Latino/Spanish people get recognized as I come
from a Hispanic culture as well… And that’s why this years Coachella, I call it the Latino takeover
since we finally get to share the same spotlight with big American artists.
Estoy orgulloso de ser latino!
