Crypta Brings Thrash Thursday To Houston

Thursday afternoon, Houston metal-heads piled into Warehouse Live Midtown for an epic show full of thrash, mosh pits, and headbanging featuring Crypta and Houston’s very own Exitium and Labyrinth. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve been to a good ol’ metal show, so saying I was excited to be able to cover it is an understatement. One thing I do love about Houston is how tight our metal music scene is, everyone shows up and supports each other’s bands… and has a damn good time doing it.

Opening bands Exitium and Labyrinth really started the night off with fantastic sets full of energy, rage, and screams. You could easily tell how absolutely thrilled they were to be able to open up for an iconic Thrash band like Crypta, in their very own hometown, with all of their friends and family in the crowd cheering them on. This motivation alone was everything Exitium and Labyrinth needed to put on killer sets to pump up the venue with pure classic thrash.

It was finally time to really let loose as it was time for Brazilian Death and Thrash metal queens Crypta took the stage. Opening up with “The Aftermath” from their newest album Shades Of Sorrow which was released last year via Napalm Records. The all female fronted band dominated the stage with bright orange and yellow lighting with a massive Crypta banner behind them along with a stage full of lit up candles and the most bizarre yet badass custom mic stand made of mini-swords by vocalist/bassists Fernanda Lira. I mean come on, the more and more I watched these intensely talented women I couldn’t help but just feel empowered myself… They are THAT good. You almost get stuck in a daze by watching them all rip apart their instruments. Crypta really knows exactly how to put on such a captivating show, this was my first time ever seeing them live, and I already made up my mind that I will absolutely make sure to attend every single show they bring to Houston.
