[Concert Review] The Spotlight Bows to Baekhyun in Sugar Land

Baekhyun is a true all-rounder with a voice that stands among the finest not just in South Korea, but on the global stage. Since his debut as a member of the pioneer K-Pop group, EXO, Baekhyun earned himself a loyal fanbase for not only his witty personality but for his unique talent. 

Baekhyun launched his solo career in 2019 with the release of his debut mini-album City Lights, featuring the sultry title track “UN Village.” The music video has since amassed over 58 million views, marking the beginning of what would become a powerhouse solo journey. Since then, Baekhyun has released a string of successful projects including Delight, Bambi, Hello, World, and his latest release, Essence of Reverie.

Each album showcases a different facet of Baekhyun’s artistry. While his sound is rooted in R&B, his seamless ability to shift between pop and emotionally rich ballads—especially in OSTs—demonstrates his unmatched versatility. With years of experience under his belt as both a celebrated vocalist and dynamic performer, expectations were high for his Reverie tour and he more than delivered.

As fog filled the stage, Baekhyun emerged in a stylish dark denim-on-denim outfit, alongside his dancers. He kicked things off with “YOUNG,” his collaboration with Korean R&B artist Loco, setting the tone for the unforgettable night ahead.

Following “YOUNG,” Baekhyun launched into “Ghost” and the crowd-favorite “Pineapple Slice.” His flawless vocals paired with smooth, captivating choreography made the performance feel truly immersive—proving his rare ability to dance with precision while delivering every note effortlessly.

He joked about the origin of Sugar Land’s name, playfully questioning whether the city was named after candy. “I love sweets, so this feels like destiny,” he quipped, earning laughter and cheers from the crowd. He also threw in fun facts about Texas, noting its size and weather with amusement, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the fans who came out to see him, especially those who had waited years to see him live again.

He continued with a moving run of tracks including “Truth Be Told,” “Cold Heart,” and “Psycho,” which added emotional depth to the night’s flow. Even if you wanted to sing, you wouldn’t in order to enjoy the beauty of his voice.

As the night drew to a close, Baekhyun brought the audience into a dreamy world with “Love Again” and “Amusement Park.” By this point, the stage was awash with confetti, painting a picture-perfect end to a night full of passion, nostalgia, and artistic brilliance.
