Cold War Kids Celebrate Two Decades at House of Blues Houston

Celebrating two decades of creating and performing music together, Cold War Kids stopped at the House of Blues Houston as part of their Twenty Years Tour on February 16, 2024. The tour follows a pandemic-era hiatus in which band frontman Nathan Willet took time to reimagine what the indie band wanted to say, writing songs about their lives and the current state of the world and marrying them to the band’s signature sound.

After a solid lead-in from the opening act, Hovvdy, from Austin, Texas, CWK gave the crowd a show full of their singular energy. Starting with “You Already Know,” “Miracle Mile,” and “So Tied Up,” the band took HOB through hits from their extensive catalog of music. Along with fan favorites like “First” and “Hang Me Up to Dry,” they played their brand new, not-even-a-month-old single, “Heaven in Your Hands,” which Willet explained was his way of reconciling the feeling of helplessness over the world around us.

Willet took his time with the House of Blues crowd, taking them through a slow sing-along of “Bottled Affection” on the piano, and then jumping down from the stage to get up close and personal for “All This Could Be Yours.”

You could tell that the crowd was a healthy mix of long-time followers and newer fans. Some were swaying and soaking in the music, while others belted out every lyric along with Willet. Either way, Cold War Kids put on an incredible show for Houston, and we hope they’ll come back soon!
