It was Friday night in Houston, Texas and the whole city was out for a night on the town. The Houston Astros were playing the Boston Red Sox for their spot in the Wrold Series, and an ACLS title win, the Houston Rockets were playing host to the OKC Thunder for their home opener. The city was full of Houstonians flooding Downtown Houston. Not far from Minute Maid Park and Toyota Center, Warehouse Live had an army gathering, preparing for war.
City morgue has been touring in support of their 3rd album ‘City Morgue Vol 3: Bottom of the Barrel’ with a sold-out stop in Houston. You could feel the tension in the room as people anticipated the duo, ZillaKami and SosaMula, to take the stage. The opening song for the night, “Neck Brace” blasted on the venues speaker and the crowd begin to jump to the beat. The room was only lit by a Monster Energy LED light and with strobes flashing you could see the crowd start a mosh pit in the middle of the crowd.
City Morgue are no strangers to the Metal genre with songs like ‘Duality’ by Slipknot playing during the first intermission getting the crowd ready to continue the mayhem and ‘Mistakes Like Fractures’ by hardcore outfit Knocked Loose playing just before to get the crowd hyped up with ‘Nuka Cola’ then settling down with one of their slower paced tracks as they returned to the stage. “Houston, light this bitch up!” Sosa commanded the crowd as everyone pulled out their cell phones and the once dark room full of War Dogs became visible and began chanting the chorus to ‘Draino’ one of the slower tracks from the group before bringing the energy back up with tracks like ‘Hurtworld 99.’ Not long after the venue lights illuminated the room again. ‘Split this bitch down the middle!’
‘Who’s the hardest person here?!?’ SosaMula demanded the crowd to follow lead as a massive circle pit began forming before ‘Gravehop 187’ blared through the PA.
With it being a sold out show there was hardly anyone standing still in the crowd with heavy metal influenced tracks like ‘Shinner13′ ending the set for City Morgue. As Fleetwood Mac played after the crowd began chanting for one more song. Not long after chants roaring throughout the venue ZillaKami and Sosamula stormed the stage for thier encore and it was very fitting the last track they performed was one of their top song in their catalog ’33rd Blakk Glass.’ People that were walking out after the last track raced back packing the room up with everyone jumping and screaming along to the lyrics. It was obvious these guys gave it their all for the performance of there last song on the set and they definitely left all they had out on the stage, with the Rockets beating OKC and the Houston Astros winning the ALCS that night, it was definitely not a boring night in downtown Houston, Texas.
