Chelsea Wolfe Brings A Night Of Serenity To Houston

After a sunny and breezy weather filled weekend, Houstonions gathered in ritual Sunday night for a much darker and moodier setting as Chelsea Wolfe made her last Texas stop at White oak music hall on her ‘She reaches Out’ tour. I’ve been a fan of this brilliantly talented woman for years now, so being able to cover and photograph this show was definitely a dream – and that’s still an understatement. The venue was packed with goth clothed, tattooed, and emotionless faced humans but don’t let that fool you, everyone there was extremely stoked for the night ahead of good ol’ doomy and folky metal.

The lights went dark and the stage was cloaked in shadows, with dim lights casting eerie silhouettes across Chelsea Wolfe and her band-mates as they walked up in front of us all. Each movement was made in mystery, and put us all in a staring trance. Starting her set with “Whispers In The Echo Chamber”, it was just like that – I was completely starstruck just gazing at her while the smoke filled the air and the incense burned behind her. She sang with every ounce of her soul within the walls of that dark room and carried on with songs including “Tunnel Lights”, “16 Psyche” (my personal favorite), and “Feral Love”. She also played a good chunk of tracks from her newest album “She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She” which was just recently released in February and you can check out that album here. There’s no denying that Chelsea Wolfe and her music isn’t for the faint, most lyrics are tense, emotional, and can really get you in some type of feel. She pulls at the strings in your heart and basically holds them in her hands with every word she sings… It’s honestly one of the most intense feelings I’ve ever had while watching a live performance. And we all know ive seen a lot of live shows…

Continuing her set with deep lighting and heavy fog, she poured her heart into each song she performed on that stage, almost drawing us fans into her world of darkness in a way… It was beautiful nonetheless. “Salt”, “Moses”, and more were played throughout her eighteen song set-list with each and every note, chord, and rhythm bouncing along the walls of the venue.

Chelsea Wolfe left an incredible mark on all who came out to see her that night as I’m sure she does with every show… Her voice, amplified and raw, carried through the sound waves in the air and drew every listener into depths of her emotion. The whole night was just a remarkably calm and intimate time, it was truly one of the best performances I’ve ever witnessed… It’s hard to really even explain how. If Chelsea is running through your city, I highly recommend attending one of her shows. It will leave you feeling almost refreshed in a way.
