Caloncho Brings “El Tour del Tofu” to White Oak Music Hall

Mexican musician Caloncho made way to Houston at White Oak Music Hall, bringing his “El Tour del Tofu” to the downstairs room in support of his latest album, Tofu. The intimate space buzzed with excitement, with no opener needed—the crowd was already primed with nostalgic hits from the 2000s, making it feel like a middle school throwback as fans sang along, eagerly anticipating Caloncho’s arrival.

Caloncho finally graced the stage, dressed in a cozy fuzzy cardigan, bucket hat, and a shirt declaring “Viva el Tofu!” His laid-back, yet whimsical look set the tone for the evening as he kicked off the set with “Vitamina D.” Fans immediately began tossing t-shirts toward the stage, hoping for autographs. Ever the gracious performer, Caloncho signed each one between songs, creating a personal connection with the crowd.

Throughout the show, Caloncho reflected on his 10 years of making music, thanking the fans for supporting him along the way. His setlist was a perfect blend of upbeat jams and heartfelt tunes, weaving in fan favorites like “Superdeli,” “Fresh,” and “Amor violento / Amor papaya.” There was even a dancey cover of Pedro Infante’s “Bésame morenita.”

Personal highlights of the night included “Palmar,” with everyone swaying to its dreamy rhythms (and the song that introduced me to his music), and “Optimista,” which radiated positive energy, as always. The encore brought the room to life once more, closing with “Somos instantes,” “Noches negras,” and the lively “Naranjita sí carnal.”

Until next time, Caloncho <3
