It was a cold and rainy evening Friday night in Houston but that didn’t stop fans from making it out to enjoy Action Bronson’s first Houston performance in over three years. The sold out show had the House of Blues packed to the brim. The lines were filled with a very diverse and mixed crowd of eager fans waiting to rush the floor to get a good view for that nights performance. Supporting artist Boldy James accompanied by legendary producer The Alchemist and former Odd Future member Earl Sweatshirt, opened the night up with an dominating display of lyrical compositions.
Boldy James and The Alchemist warmed up the crowd with a quick selection of songs from their joint projects Bo Jackson and Super Tecmo Bo. Alchemist, who co-host the television series Fuck, That’s Delicious along side Action Bronson, as well as produces a number of his albums, has become good friends with James over the recent year and has been exclusively produced the artist latest works. The crowd was ecstatic from the energy of the opening act but the excitement for Earl Sweatshirt could not be contained. His DJ came out and played some tracks to get the crowd ready and not much longer lights dimmed and a deep voice blared through the PA speakers. Earl graced the stage quick and to the point opening with “Ecoli” moving around as smooth as his flow. The evening proceeded as Earl carried the show with an amazing performance. His setlist was filled with a variety of tracks from his projects “Some Rap Songs” to his newest release “SICK!”.
“Yo! Let’s fucking do this. It’s my mother fucking birthday y’all.” Earl announced with the crowd going wild in response. It had just been his birthday the night before. “Well it was my birthday yesterday, but it’s been my birthday for the last few weeks is let’s keep this going” as he continued for a few more songs.
After a brief stage setup an audio sample start to play. With the crowd roaring, Action Bronson walks out wasting no time, jumping right into his opening song “Demetri”. Gracing the city with his New York style of hip-hop rapping. He performed flawlessly with every song flowing smoothly and the crowd screaming lyrics word for word. He paced from left to right interacting with the crowd, loving the energy Houston was giving. “Houston! We in this mother fucker! And we’re here to tell you we’re back!”
The evening continued with 100% crowd interaction with Action and during his performance he
grabbed an Armenian flag from someone and displayed it proudly over his shoulders continuing
his song. The night went on amazingly with only minor technical issues with the speakers fuzzy
and not being loud enough. “Hold up stop the song. Fix that fucking shit!” But other then that
minor issue I loved his performance as did the crowd chanting for an encore. As the light
dimmed “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” blarred and Action Bronson danced his way back to the stage!
The audience’s lost it! The. Shortly after Action brought out a special guest, Houston’s own Bun
B! Bun B performed and Action closed out with an encore and it was an amazing show! With
concerts coming back to Houston again if you get the chance to see Action Bronson
DEFINITELY don’t miss out. Each performance is special on its own and is always a guaranteed
good time!
