Becky from the block, Becky G, made Smart Financial Centre her home for her “Mi Casa, Tu Casa” tour. Her stage production consisted of a two story mock up of a house to represent her “casa”. The colors of the house combined with the stage lighting all complimented Becky’s aesthetic to the T.
Becky G’s highest value is family & she made that very clear through her setlist & tributes throughout her show. She honored her late grandfather with the track “Querido Abuelo” thanking him for instilling a passion for music all while providing unconditional support for her. Becky could not hold back her tears as she sang to her grandfather & I couldn’t help myself but to cry with her. It is so beautiful to see someone be so openly emotional through their music.
I love how open Becky was about her identity as a Chicana. She values her Mexican roots & embraced them through the tracks “La Nena”, “Chanel”, & “Ya Acabo” which are some of her Regional Mexicano tracks. Becky is swift with her style as she can bounce from Regional Mexicano, to latin pop, then to Reggeaton. Moreover, Becky played a colorful tribute to the late Selena Quintanilla with a medley that consisted of “Como la flor”, “Carcacha”, “Bidi bidi bom bom” & “Baila esta cumbia”. She then respectfully paid her respect to the late Vanessa Guillen as she was a native Houstonian. With tears in her eyes she told the crowd, “I just wanted to acknowledge her tonight and talk about how important it is that we look out for each other as a community and especially as women.”
Becky has a big heart & a lot of love for her fans! She took a tequila shot with one fan & brought another fan on stage & gave him a bouquet of flowers. This was so great to see because sometimes artists feel so unreachable so it is heartwarming to see artists who make the effort to appreciate their largest support system, their fans. She wrapped up the night with a 2014 favorite, “Shower”. This track was a breakthrough track for Becky’s career so it was only right to perform it as a reminder of how far she has come !
