Avenged Sevenfold Brings A Little Piece Of Heaven To The Woodlands, TX

Thursday October 12th, Houstonians and surrounding metal head humans gathered within the grounds of Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion to rock out with their socks out to two very highly anticipated bands; Avenged Sevenfold and Falling In Reverse. Also adding to the bill was Kim Dracula…which unfortunately i was not able to make it in time to see them, but lucky for me i had a lot of kick-ass friends there to let me know that they did indeed put on one “very interesting” set… to say the least. Not sure what exactly that means since I wasn’t there to witness and have never heard of them before so ultimately that’s all I’ve got for you in that manner. But hey, interesting isn’t always a bad thing right?!

I started my night off with well known American Rock band Falling In Reverse, which i also have not seen live before so going into it i was a bit skeptical on what exactly to expect when it comes to the very controversial front man/vocalist Ronnie Radke. Was he going to be good that night? Or start some political shizz within the crowd? Let’s be honest, we never know what we are going to get when it comes to Ronnie and his moods these days. Starting off with “Zombified”, “I’m Not A Vampire”, and “Losing My Mind” I couldn’t help but notice how absolutely energized these dudes were. Everyone in the crowd behind me was just losing their minds, moshing, screaming, headbanging, and all of the works. One thing about Falling In Reverse, is these guys are wickedly talented. Hate them or not. You can’t deny that there’s some badassery in their lyrical meanings and killer riffs. They know what they are doing.. And that’s why they are still as big as they are. They covered a good vast majority of jams that night, including Smash Mouth cover “All Star”, which yet again, the fans went wild for. Ending their set with “Popular Monster” obviously for being one of their most popular songs out right now, They really put on one epic performance and really got the crowd going for what was yet to come. As the band was exiting the stage, Ronnie said his final goodbyes and noticed a 6 year old in the crowd with a sign that said “It’s my 6th birthday and all I wanted was to see Falling In Reverse”. Ronnie gave the boy a shout-out and the crowd all cheered for the boy. It was truly one of the sweetest things I’ve been able to see. All in all, Falling In Reverse are extremely talented individuals… and definitely gained a new fan.

For those who truly know me, know my real sincere obsession when it comes to all things Avenged Sevenfold. Since my early tween years, this band has been a hardcore favorite of mine… so being able to cover this show was literally a dream come true… to say the least. The last time I was even able to see them live was in 2017, so it has definitely been a hot minute since they were able to return to Houston.  Starting off their set with “Game Over” from their newest album “Life Is But A Dream”, the stage was dark lit, and all you could see was a masked front man and vocalist M. Shadows sitting on a very small chair in the middle of the stage. This lasted a good few first minutes of the song before eventually getting up while the rest of the band mates joined him on stage. At that point, the almost fully filled pavilion was up on their toes and rocking out along to “Mattel”, “Afterlife”, and “Hail To The King”. The stage was backlit with huge LED screens with switching from intense fire visuals and the frame of a house, it was the perfect setup they could have done for the show. The visuals went along perfectly throughout the night matching each song played. A very emotional “So Far Away” Blasted through the speakers leaving everyone in the crowd singing along with lighters up in the air. As many know, this song is dedicated to the late former band mate “The Rev”, so saying the air was filled with all sorts of emotion is an understatement. You could hear the cracks of sorrow in M.Shadows voice as he screamed out the lyrics. Continuing with older classics including “Bat Country”, “Unholy Confessions”, and one of my personal favorites, “A Little Piece Of Heaven”, my inner fangirl was thriving yall. At this point I was so starstruck and screaming along to every single lyric myself. Finishing with encores from their newest album, Avenged Sevenfold will never fall short of bringing fans one hell of a performance and that was yet again proven that night.
