It’s was a surprisingly cool Wednesday night as a mass of flannel wearing concert goers got together at Bayou Music Center in excitement to see metalcore band A Day To Remember, currently on there Re Entry Tour with supporting act Asking Alexandria. It was a night bringing a nostalgic feeling to a large amount of people in the crowd. With band having a pretty lengthy discography, since their break-out album And Their Name Was Treason released 2005 to the now 7th studio album the band is supporting during the tour, You’re Welcome.
The band has always had, in most fans opinions, great live performances and Wednesday night was no let down. Opening with the song “Right Back At it Again”, smoke shot from the front of the stage with streamers falling from the ceiling and the crowd immediately began jumping to the guitar riffs. Lead singer Jeremy McKinnon’s voice sounded great through the entire evening and with plenty of help with crowd participation it seem like everybody in the audience knew every word. The set list of the night was a decent mix of their discography. From songs like “2nd Sucks” that have a heavy tone throughout the song. The whole night Jeremy made his support of fans moshing clear and people happily formed giant pits to jump, push and scream their hearts out.
At one point in the night McKinnon explained how he wanted the crowd to grab the person they came with, and ride the crowd while standing on them as a surf board! And with no hesitations, it was done. A swarm of bodies could be seen being carried to the barriers where security really had their handful that night. Of course the band wasn’t insensitive and did ask for a round of applause for the security team for handling everyone that night with respect and keeping the attendees safe.
Through the high energy there were tracks they played that weren’t as hectic. To slow things down songs like “Have Faith in Me” and “Everything We Need” we’re played. Being sentimental songs, the love could be felt throughout the venue. But not long after those selected few medleys, the pop-punk party continued as “The Magic Bomb” played while the band returned the The stage after a brief intermission. The mosh pits started right back up, resembling small typhoons in a sea of people.
“If you came out here to dance this one might be one of your last chances!” Screamed MacKinnon.
He mentioned this referring to the small groups of people throughout the venue “hardcore dancing”, before starting one of the bands most popular songs “The Plot To Bomb The Panhandle”. It was already an amazing show filled with so much energy and theatrics, and the band still had a few more to go.
“This is the part where we come out and play one last song for you guys..but you know what? We got 3 more for you!”
The crowd roared with excitement. They couldn’t get enough. Starting the encore with the heartfelt “If It Means A lot To You” creating an intimate moment with the crowd.
Following with “Sometimes You’re The Hammer, Sometimes You’re The Nail” and ending with the opening track from 2009’s Homesick, “The Downfall Of Us All” capped off the amazing night and I personally cannot wait for A Day To Remember to come back to Houston, because even if you don’t know the band, seeing them live can almost guarantee you tapping your feet to there music and peeking your interest.
